3 Power of Prayer

3 Power of Prayer

Have you ever come to a point when you are unable to pray? You are tired and all that you want is to rest and take a sleep. Or have you ever come to a point when you thought that a prayer is just a waste of time because nothing happens; God doesn’t answer your prayer. Your situation never changed and an unanswered prayer makes you doubt if really God works through prayer? Everyone had been on that situation.

Do you still remember what Jesus did before He was arrested by the officials? He was praying and He asked His disciples to pray. And what happened? For several times, Jesus found His disciples sleeping. They can’t even pray that time maybe because of their physical burdened.

There’s a lot of Christians having the same struggle over and over again. You might get excited to pray today but what would happened tomorrow? Your excitement to pray will soon fade and it is hard to get back to the excitement of prayer again.
Prayer is where most of us failed.

In this section, we are to look on the same passage we use on The Purpose of Prayer.

I am using the same verses over and over again because the Words of Incarnated Son of God has a lot to offer so that we might engage in prayer even it seems no something special happens when we pray.
So let us read it again:

Matthew 6:5-13
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
So do not be like them; for your Father know what you need before you ask Him
Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your Kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
[For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]

With all those struggles and hardship in prayer God is giving us the assurance that Prayer works and the Power of Prayer.

1. Prayer delivers our needs to God.

We are living in a society where we have an easy access to almost everything. If we our hungry and get up to cook we can just dial certain digits and make an order. Our desired food will knock on our door. Can you imagine what our technology can do? There is a technology which been there since the beginning – PRAYER.

Prayer delivers our desire to God whatever they are. Our petitions and supplications go up to heaven in the form of prayer.
Matthew 6:11 says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” [NASB]

Prayer gives us easy access to heaven. We can tell God free of charge whatever we need.

2. Prayer delivers to God our need to be forgiven.

Prayer is necessity. When we first heard the gospel and understood what it says about us and God, we go to God in prayer to ask Him for forgiveness and thank Him for His grace.
And as growing Christians we are subjected to failure. We fail God many times, we sin, we make mistakes and the Word of God in First John assures us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” [NASB]

The Lord at any time and at any occasion will forgive His mourning children about their sins.

3. Prayer delivers to God our need for Protection.

I remember reading years ago about the building of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. When they started building there were no safety precautions and devices used, and because of that 23 men fell tragically to their death. However, during the construction of the last part of the bridge a safety net was constructed at a cost of $100,000 - which in those days was exorbitant - but it was worth it, because it saved the lives of 10 men. But the interesting thing about that story was that when they completed the bridge they discovered, through a very exhaustive study, that 25% more work was accomplished in the same period of time when the men were completely sure of their personal safety. They could get on with the work! They had that security that they longed for, to put those questions and doubts out of their mind and throw all their energies into the work!

What God does to us in prayer is that He keeps us safe from the future sin. He does not just forgive us our past sins but He forgives us our future sins. Moreover, He delivers us so that we could not sin against Him. This is deliverance. God keeps us safe that could make us work with His precautionary measures.
You read it right, God is forgiving our future sins but it is not a license to sin because a truly converted Christian will at least not sin habitually against God. For sin precedes consequences.

These are the Power of Prayer in the lives of the believers. Take joy for our assurance that God will provide our physical needs, our forgiveness if we ask for it and Protect by delivering us from temptation.
