What is Christianity?
Christianity is not merely a set of rules or a religious tradition. At its heart, Christianity is about knowing God through Jesus Christ. It is the message of hope, redemption, and restoration for sinners like us, made possible by the sovereign grace of God.
The Heart of Christianity
The central figure of Christianity is Jesus Christ — fully God and fully man — who lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose again for our justification. As John 14:6 says, Jesus declared:
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
The Gospel: Good News for Sinners
According to Scripture, all have sinned (Romans 3:23), and the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23). The good news — the Gospel — is that Jesus took our punishment and satisfied God’s justice on the cross. This is central to the Christian message.
A Reformed Understanding
Reformed theology emphasizes that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, according to Scripture alone (the five solas).
As R.C. Sproul noted:
“We are saved not by making a decision, but by the divine decision of God to redeem sinners through His Son.”
Christianity is a Changed Life
Being a Christian is not just agreeing to facts. It's a transformation — a new birth (John 3:3). It means being regenerated by the Holy Spirit and living with a new purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Why It Matters Today
Christianity offers hope in a broken world. It's not based on our works but on God’s mercy. Whether you feel far from God or curious about faith, Christianity invites you to know the Savior who calls sinners to Himself.
Are You a Christian?
True Christianity begins with repentance and faith in Jesus. Do you believe the Gospel? Have you trusted in Christ for salvation? This isn’t about religion — it’s about new life.
As John MacArthur says:
“Christianity is not about adding Jesus to your life. It's about giving Him your life — because He is life.”
